2020's Top 3 Kitchen Design Styles
Hamptons kitchen design style is casual, classic and coastal. Inspired by the affluent seaside summer homes on Long Island, New York, The Hamptons represent relaxed living, natural materials, travel inspired décor and lots of natural light. Australia shares many of these elements so it’s no wonder it’s become such a popular Sydney kitchen design choice.
Marble benchtops are natural and timeless and suit this look perfectly. For benchtop resurfacing, Calacatta is a popular choice. We recommend the bold veins of our Glacier stone or Statumax, another favourite which provides a softer and subtle effect.
Shaker kitchen cabinet doors are a must, we particularly love the Cronulla and Bondi door profiles. Shell drawer handles combined with door knobs in New Hampton or Florencia look beautiful in pewter or even a champagne finish for a more modern twist.
Pale colours characterise homes in the Hamptons. White is the predominant feature and can look great with grey or blue accents. We love an understated grey-blue island or splashback tile which reflect the colours of the ocean.
This light and airy style recreates the laid-back feel of life on the beach. Popular choices include marine colours like aqua, light blue, and white. Polyurethane doors are a popular choice for this kitchen design style as they allow you to choose whichever shade you like.
You can’t go past granite benchtop resurfacing in Sea Salt and Hydra White stone tops which offer the crispest whites. For a real coastal vibe, our Ocean Pearl and Perla Bianca engineered stone contain genuine mother of pearl shell pieces.
Flooring incorporates tile or wood that replicates the deck of a ship or boardwalk. Our partners at Mint Floors & Shutters have the perfect solution for wet areas – Hydroplank Hybrid Floors are waterproof and come in a variety of coastal timber colours.
For the finishing touches, coastal décor such as rattan bar stools and weathered wood resembling ship timbers combine well with this look. Art work such as ropes and fish netting add more of the beach house touch. Vignettes can incorporate shells, sand, starfish, driftwood and nautical items while clear or blue-tinted glass bottles resemble water and reflect light.
A favourite style used in many Sydney designer kitchens. This look has clean lines, plenty of storage and incorporates seamless integration.
Start with flat panel Melamine or Ultra Glaze Acrylic kitchen cabinet doors in a neutral base colour. You can then introduce blocks of colour or timber features from our Melamine door range.
Black, gold and copper fixtures are used frequently for sinks, tapware and handles. We recommend a modern Regal range sink and Designer single lever Gooseneck tap. From our Contemporary range, the new Prato handles or Como knobs in Matt black are a popular choice. Of course you can’t go wrong with handleless doors.
LED strip lighting under cabinets has been trending. It provides functional task lighting for worktops while also creating a warm, moodier effect. Kickplate lighting adds another level of sophistication to Sydney home renovations and Pendant lighting is an attractive and effective choice to soften hard lines.
